Frankie "The Answer" Edgar, former UFC Lightweight Champion, holds notable victories over B.J. Penn, Sean Sherk, and Mark Bocek. He is currently ranked as the number one lightweight fighter in the world.
Edgar began wrestling as early as seven years old and has competed successfully in both high school and college. He entered his first MMA fight with only a few weeks of training outside of his wrestling background. Edgar originally trained with the Rhino Fight Team, but today he is part of the Gracie system under Ricardo Almeida in Hamilton, NJ.
At UFC 112, Edgar was matched against lightweight champion BJ Penn. Edgar won the very close fight by unanimous decision and was awarded the UFC Lightweight Championship.
The bout was so close that there was a rematch at UFC 118. Edgar again defeated Penn via unanimous decision to retain the title. This victory made him only the second fighter to defeat Penn in the lightweight division and also only the second fighter ever to beat Penn twice (the other being Georges St-Pierre).
On June 24, 2010 ESPN announced Edgar as a nominee for Best Upset of the Year at the 2010 ESPY Awards.
